Zoo

Is the Omaha zoo open year-round?

Yes, you can enjoy the zoo any day of the year except when closed Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

How long does it take to go through the Omaha zoo?

With 13 major exhibits to explore and beyond, your visit to the zoo can easily take an entire day. Plan to spend at least an entire morning or afternoon at the zoo, though to make the most of your visit we recommend spending the day or a weekend. Because the zoo covers 160 acres, no one visit will be the same.

Can you drink beer at the Omaha zoo?

No, outside alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the zoo. However, beer is available for purchase at the Durham TreeTops Restaurant overlooking the Lied Jungle. Beer and alcoholic beverages are available at select afterhours events throughout the year, like Late Nights at the Zoo and Ghouls & Glow.

Can you take food into the Omaha zoo?

Yes, outside food and beverage are allowed at the zoo; glass bottles and containers, however, are not.

Is the Omaha zoo open when it rains?

Yes, the zoo is open rain or shine. Seven acres of indoor exhibits make it easy to still experience the zoo when rain makes it difficult to navigate the attraction outdoors. There have been cases where the zoo has closed for the day due to snow; in cases of inclement weather, call ahead before visiting.

What’s included with general admission?

Access to the zoo’s exhibits and attractions are included with general admission excluding Stingray Beach, which requires an entry fee. Parking is free.

Activities within the zoo that may be enjoyed for a small fee include a ride on Sue’s Wildlife Carousel and on the Skyfari, train or tram. Additionally, admission to the Lozier Giant Screen Theater is only issued to guests visiting with a membership or with regular paid admission.

Various concessions and eateries are conveniently located throughout the zoo with food and drink available for purchase.
